How can i buy jewelry designed by artist and only pay them directly?

Dare to ask? asked: i want really pretty jewelry for everyday and for special events but I'd rather spend my money rather it high or low on people who are designing the jewelry by hand and not some big company. where can i find stores that support artist this way?
