Open Question: What do you think is better for a Christmas gift? (Jewelry)?

My wife told me about a necklace from a company called Everlon, anyways I was browsing online and found I guess what you may call a good deal (I don't really think so) but anyways.

I can buy a necklace 1/2 ct 14k gold for like $1500 including tax and everything or with that money I can buy the same necklace but with only 1/4 ct for half the price and I can throw in an earring set of the same style with 1/4 ct for other $700 so it'll be the same $1500 I was originally going to spend
