Open Question: How do I get my son to stop biting people?

February 28, 2009 – 5:17 pm

My 17 year old son, who has down syndrome, constantly bites everyone and everything. If you give him something, like a beaver - he'll tear it apart. Yesterday, he found by jewelry box - and bit all my rings, even swallowing some of the diamond ones.

I made him sit on the toilet for hours until . . . they came out the other end, but he refused; mad at me because he'd missed Sponge Bob.

How on earth do I get him to stop biting people, especially people on the street, and to stop chewing/eating my things. Is there any way I can get my rings back? One of them was my grandmothers, and is very important to me.
