Open Question: Help! I made a horrible mistake: Please tell me what’s going to happen?
June 30, 2009 – 12:17 pmI am 22 and I got caught trying to steal 220 dollars worth of costume jewelry from Macy's in CA. When I began to slow down and think "I can't go through with this" they ran outside took me to the back Loss Prevention office. I sat there crying and beating myself up for 4 hours, and after they took my info and picture and banned me from Macy's, they gave me a Civil Demand notice that said I will be contacted via mail and ordered to pay a fine. They also told me that I was being released under the prevision that if they change their minds and decided to press criminal charges (aside from Civil), the cops can come to my house or call me into the court for booking/fingerprints. First off, what are the chances that they will change their minds? I have never been in trouble with the law and have NEVER BEEN so terrified in my life....I can't sleep at night for fear of this mistake ruining me forever. If my family or boss ever found out, I would literally be ruined. PLEASE HELP!!!! I am not fully understanding what is going to happen. If they let me go, and filed a private Civil notice, does this go on my record???? Again, what are the chances of them "changing their minds" and arresting me? It has now been a week after the fact.
